UpStage's Musical Theatre Workshop isn't your average school drama class.

It's a proper, full-throttle day of singing, dancing, and acting with people who actually do this stuff professionally. We're talking about teaching artists who've just stepped off touring productions.

These aren't your "I-teach-drama-on-Tuesdays" instructors. Nope. They're performers. (Think Hamilton, Grease, Dear Evan Hansen…)

The day's structured around rotations: vocals, dance, acting. You'll pick up techniques that real musical theatre performers use. Character work. Choreography that'll make your legs burn (in a good way). Ensemble singing that actually requires you to listen to the person next to you. You'll discover how movement tells a story, how breath supports a belted note, how the tiniest acting choice can transform a scene from meh to magnificent.

And here's the thing: it builds more than skills. Confidence, yeah. But also that muscle of creative courage. The willingness to try something, fail at it in front of people, laugh, and go again. You'll work in small groups (because 40 kids learning the same dance combo is chaos), support each other through the tricky bits, and experience that very specific rush of taking something from script to stage in six hours flat.

At the end of the day you perform. Nothing formal or intimidating, just an informal showcase for families and mates, celebrating what you've created together. We also throw in a Q&A with the teaching artists. Ask about WAAPA auditions, what conservatorium's actually like, how to handle rejection, whether anyone actually makes a living doing this. Ages 8–21. First-timer or seasoned performer, doesn't matter.

We meet you where you are. Could be your tenth workshop or your very first time on stage (terrifying, we know). The workshop's designed with professional-standard training but delivered in an environment that's... well, joyful. Supportive. Where messing up is part of the process and everyone, literally everyone, gets their moment to shine!
