Join Dance Makers Collective and Tamworth’s fabulous 2340 Big Band in an evening of joyous music and dancing with your partners, family and friends as we transform the Tamworth Town Hall into a mid-century dance hall, taking inspiration from the peak dance hall and disco eras, reimagined for the modern lover of dancing.

Whether you have a dance partner, like a night out on the town or a boogie in your living room, The Saturday Night Social is the place for you to shake off those winter blues! 

Get a party together of family or friends for a night full of excitement, nostalgia and rockin’ good times that will create cherished memories for years to come. 

The 2340 Big Band, under the direction of Tim Godden, have a list of their favourite dance tunes they know you will love. You won’t be able to resist tapping your toes, springing to your feet and even singing along!

Dance Makers Collective’s mission is to revive the social impact of bygone eras through making dance accessible to as many people as possible and creating memorable dance experiences for the whole community. 

Tamworth & region – it’s time to have some fun!

You can bring a plate of nibbles and snacks for you and your friends to enjoy.  Doors and bar will be open from 6pm, with the dancing kicking off at 7pm.

Could you be one of our Dance Ambassadors?

Dance Makers Collective would love to have local dancers from the Tamworth Region join their team and be ‘surreptitiously planted’ in the hall on the night to encourage the other patrons onto the dance floor.

A free dance workshop would be held on Friday, 25 July at the Town Hall, from 5-7pm.

Meet the Collective’s dancers, learn a couple of simple contemporary pieces with all the dancers and be ready for the fun to start early! No professional dance experience needed - We’re looking for people who love dancing and who would help keep the dancing happening out on the floor at various times during the event.

About Dance Makers Collective

Dance Makers Collective is Western Sydney’s professional dance company and the only collective-led dance company in Australia. Established in 2012, the company comprises nine professional dance makers who have worked for major dance and theatre companies from around Australia, touring major productions internationally. Together, Dance Makers Collective create exciting contemporary dance works with “imagination, thoughtfulness and even a sense of humour” (Jill Sykes, Sydney Morning Herald). The Saturday Night Social is a spin-off of the company’s 2020 Sydney Festival hit The Rivoli. Dance Makers Collective and Dubbo Regional Theatre and Convention Centre together won a 2024 PAC Australia Award for The Saturday Night Social, recognising the shared ingenuity, reciprocity, care and commitment towards developing this project that deeply engages the community and leaves an ongoing legacy for presenting the work in the future. 

DMC’s mission is to build dance communities, and the work we create focuses on bridging gaps between contemporary dance, social dance, community and storytelling through deeply moving dance experiences. Led by musical director, Tim Godden, 2340 Big Band is a renowned community-based jazz band based in Tamworth, NSW. With a rich history of bringing together experienced local musicians, the band has become a beloved institution in the region, providing live jazz performances and contributing to the local music scene.

Known for its dynamic performances and high-energy shows, the 2340 Big Band plays a wide range of big band jazz, from swing tunes to classic rock and even dabbling in country music. The band features a lineup of trumpets, trombones and saxophones, with a 4-piece rhythm section, and have an array of talented vocalists to call upon, creating a vibrant sound that appeals to music lovers of all ages. They frequently perform at local concerts and events, drawing large crowds with their infectious enthusiasm and skill.
