music that is steeped in blues, gospel and old-time folk
Karl S. Williams makes music that is steeped in blues, gospel and old-time folk. With a voice that sounds about a thousand years old, Karl moves freely between guitar, piano and banjo. His songs have a lyricism that calls to mind the classic singer-songwriters of yesteryear while his live performances are frequently described as “mesmerising”. Karl proudly traces his bloodlines to the Badtjala and Dharug people of Australia’s First Nations. This deep connection to the landscape of his homeland pervades his work and infuses it with a spirituality that is older than time.
Karl has been releasing music since 2013, including the award-winning album ‘Lifeblood’ (2020). His debut album ‘Heartwood’ (2013) was described by Noel Mengel in The Courier Mail as “So good it may even save your life.” He will be releasing a new album (or two!) in 2026 and premiering material from this at The Bluebird Room.
