MIRUSIA IN CONCERT
22 Apr - Town Hall
Presented by STAR BILLING
'this time tomorrow'
with chamber orchestra and choral singers
Born in Australia to Dutch parents, MIRUSIA studied Opera at the Queensland Conservatorium and at the age of 21 was announced the youngest winner ever of the prestigious Dame Joan Sutherland Opera Award.
MIRUSIA’s fairy tale came true when after hearing her voice, André Rieu invited her to The Netherlands where she successfully auditioned for him. Acclaimed as the “Angel of Australia”, for the past nine years she has toured extensively around the globe with André Rieu as his Star Soprano and an integral part of his famous Outdoor Spectaculars. Combined with her solo tours, she has achieved recognition as a true international performer singing many styles of music including opera, musical theatre, pop and jazz.
In October 2010, MIRUSIA’s album and DVD “Always & Forever” was released in Australia. Singing in six different languages, the album features favourites such as Schubert’s “Ave Maria”, Andrew Lloyd Webber’s “Memory” (Cats) “Wishing You Were Somehow Here Again” (The Phantom of the Opera) and “Botany Bay” in a tribute to her homeland.
The DVD went straight to No. 1 on the ARIA DVD charts and the album to No. 17 on the ARIA pop charts. This resulted in a No. 1 ARIA AWARD, making MIRUSIA the first classical artist ever to receive such an Award. It is no wonder that the Australian media named her “The Unconventional Pop Star”. MIRUSIA has released 5 solo albums and her version of Ave Maria has over 25 million views on YouTube.
