Live Entertainment returns in September with a plan to ensure ‘the show can go on’!

Peter Ross, manager of Entertainment Venues for Tamworth Regional Council, announced today that a range of live entertainment events and concerts will definitely be going ahead from September. Music based events including The Rock Show Oz Edition, Gone Too Soon, The Songs and Tales of Angry Old Men, Damien Leith; as well as live theatre events including Les Divas: an All-Male Revue, Magic Beach, Edward The Emu and local events; The Studio’s Chapter One, Len Waters Cultural Spectacular, 2340 Big Band Rock The Classics and TCDA’s Eternity are proceeding.

Tamworth is extremely well placed in regards to venues. There are very few regional cities that have the capacity to move between venues depending on the size and current restrictions. Ross said, “With this in mind we are announcing that regardless of whether the current restrictions remain or are lifted we can confidently assure people that our events will be proceeding for the rest of 2020.”

Ross stated, “This means that if we have to, we will transfer events from the Capitol Theatre into the TRECC intimate theatre mode so that ‘the show can go on’.  We won’t need to re-issue tickets as we will replicate the Capitol seating plan in TRECC but with the required social distancing. It will be an easy transition for ticket holders – all that will change is the venue. This gives us a plan to work along with the NSW Health Order and State government direction and also give confidence to our promoters and audiences that the show can definitely go ahead under the current restrictions that are in place.”

The Entertainment Venues team has its COVID Safety Plan in place and the safety of staff and customers is at the top of their list as they plan for the first show slated from 31 August, 2020.

Ross was enthusiastic when he said, “I think people are really looking forward to getting out to be entertained with live performance after such an intense four month period of restrictions. We will have all the measures in place to ensure their experience is a safe one.”

At least one week prior to an event they will be communicating to audiences whether the events will be as scheduled at the Capitol or whether they have been relocated to TRECC due to restrictions still being in place.  “This means we can work with the most up to date restrictions.” Peter added.

People can find out more about what’s on offer by going to entertainmentvenues.com.au or by calling the Capitol Theatre Box Office on 6767 5200.

The NSW Government has announced that from 1 July 2020 all indoor venues can open but they must follow the 4 square metre rule.

We will be opening our Box Office again from 1 July for normal box office hours but we won’t be presenting any ticketed theatre shows under these capacity restrictions as it just isn’t economically viable for us or the promoter or hirer to do so. We will wait until the 4 square meter rule is lifted. We are hopeful that this will occur within the next 2 to 4 weeks.

We have put a range of measures in place like automated hand sanitisers, increased cleaning and cashless and contactless transactions and we are happy for people to wear masks to the theatre if they so desire once we open again.

At this stage we don’t know exactly when our first show will be but we are crossing our fingers that it will be in late August/ early September 2020 – as soon as the NSW government lets us know we will be communicating with you about all the shows we will have on offer.
